It’s been a decade since The Temper Trap shared a new full-length project with fans, but that’s all about to change. The Australian indie rock act will release their fourth studio album, Sungazer, on July 10.
In 2018, frontman Dougy Mandagi and bandmates guitarist Joseph Greer, bassist Jonathon Aherne, and drummer Toby Dundas agreed to part ways and pursue individual projects. The move came as a way to escape a period of intense burnout, following years of rigorous touring and music-making.
After four years spent building lives outside of The Temper Trap, the band began crafting songs remotely, sending demos back and forth before eventually reuniting in the studio. That period of separation and refocus sparked new creative inspiration, leading to the creation of Sungazer.
“With time apart and much personal growth from us all, Sungazer feels like it’s captured the most pure collection of music we’ve ever made,” the band shares in a statement. “We had more fun making this record and in the writing room than on any of the previous records we’ve done. We’re in a great place creatively and in our friendships, we’re closer than ever. Being back into the studio together really felt like coming home.”

Along with their album announcement, the band has shared the record’s sparkling title track, which delivers a heartfelt pledge many can resonate with.
“’Sungazer’ is a song I wrote as a declaration to my little boy Ziggy before he was born,” frontman Dougy Mandagi explains. “The lyrics are a promise to him, to be with him throughout his life.”
“And when you go through stormy weather / Sungazer, sungazer / I’ll wait with you ‘till it gets better / Sungazer, sungazer.”
This summer, they’ll hit the road as support for Muse’s recently announced North American tour. Tickets for all dates listed below are on sale now. You can find more information about the shows and explore ticketing options by visiting The Temper Trap’s official website.
