It’s been over a decade since Alabama Shakes delivered a new full-length project, but the celebrated trio is ready to end that streak sooner rather than later. Today (July 7), the recently reunited group confirmed their third studio album, I Must Be Dreaming, will be released on Aug. 28 via Island Records.
Bandmates Brittany Howard, Heath Fogg, and Zac Cockrell recruited Shawn Everett to produce the project, which was recorded in Nashville at Sound Emporium Studios and Blackbird Studio.
“There’s a double meaning to it,” Howard notes of the album’s title. “It could be saying, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so fucking crazy right now.’ But it could also mean, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so incredibly beautiful.’ Both those things can be true at once.”

The record comprises 11 tracks, including their previously released singles “Another Life” and “American Dream,” as well as the politically focused “I Feel Hope Coming,” which will drop this Friday, July 10.
“This younger generation makes me feel hopeful because they can see through all the political lies – that song’s about holding onto that hope, and refusing to give up,” Howard says of the song’s inspiration.
“I’m really happy that song exists,” adds Fogg. “It came from such a joyful moment of collaboration, and exemplifies everything I love about this band being reborn.”
Ahead of the record’s release, Alabama Shakes will spend much of the coming weeks out on the road, including an extensive roster of U.S. tour dates that stretches through August and September.
