Long before it became the hub for debaucherous bachelorette parties, Nashville was known as the place to find some of the most talented artists and songwriters in the world. With her latest single, “Don’t Let Me Go,” Music City resident Denitia spotlights the rare kind of artistry that positions her far apart from the pack.

Over the past few years, the gifted singer-songwriter has rapidly made a mark on the Nashville music scene after becoming a stalwart of Brooklyn’s independent music scene for a decade. Since relocating to Tennessee, she’s earned local critical praise and national attention, regularly touring with the Black Opry Revue. On Sept. 6, she’ll share her buzzed-about new album Sunset Drive, which promises a captivating blend of country and indie rock.

Co-written with Brad Allen Williams, who also served as producer for Sunset Drive, “Don’t Let Me Go” is a heavenly mix of vulnerable lyricism and sparse but intricated instrumentation. Reminiscent of the genre-blending sounds of acts like Ruston Kelly and boygenius, the track echoes the complicated emotions that can accompany an unpredictable spark.

“I think you got to hold me / I’m drowning in water,” Denitia requests through smooth, emotive vocals. “And I’m drying out / No, don’t let me go.”

“‘Don’t Let Me Go’ is about falling in love accidentally and at the wrong time,” Denitia shared in a statement. “It’s about bringing your mess into someone else’s life, and holding on for dear life while you’re in pieces but falling in love anyways. There’s a certain desperation and chaos when you slip and fall into a new relationship when you’re really not ready. This one is a plea for someone to hold me together while I reckon with the chaos of not being ready to give my heart away again, but doing it anyway.”

Denitia will mark the release of Sunset Drive with a special performance at The Basement in Nashville on Sept. 6 ahead of a string of dates supporting Mickey Guyton this fall. You can find more information on the album and all upcoming live shows by visiting Denitia’s official website.
