You may know her best as a member of Broken Social Scene or as the co-founder of Stars, but Amy Millan is ready to reintroduce herself. For the first time in more than 15 years, the indie rock stalwart is gearing up to release a brand new album of solo material.
Set for release on May 30 via Last Gang Records, I Went to Find You promises to be another captivating collection of songs from the multi-talented artist. The record’s slow-grooving lead single, “Wire walks,” highlights Millan’s pristinely effortless vocals and clever lyricism.
“I reference Stars’ ‘Ageless Beauty’ here with the lyric ‘I lied when I said that time would catch your head,'” Millan shares in a statement. “I thought when I was younger time would mend all wounds, but I was wrong, it does not. Turns out they stick around! So what I have learned with my sage years is to stop trying to dodge and outrun the hard feelings. Embrace the difficult bits, the footprint that made me what I am. When outrunning isn’t working, I might need to lean into what I’ve always been.”
“When I’m walking on a wire / Slightly bent without an anchor,” Millan sings. “Could I come down without a fall? / Catching clues of what I’m here for?”

“Wire walks” offers listeners an early glimpse into the soundscape of I Went to Find You, which Millan describes as a collection of “gentle songs for difficult times.” Crafted alongside co-writer and producer Jay McCarrol, the 9-track LP explores the gamot of complicated and unpredictable challenges that live can throw your way.
“When I look back at all the songs I’ve ever written, there’s a lot of moments where I’m expressing sadness about a lost love when really there’s a much greater loss at the core,” says Millan. “This record felt like the first time I was able to address that loss without clouding it all in lyrics about boys and whiskey.”
For the “Wire walks” music video, Millan tapped AOK as producer, along with Luca Tarantini and Jonah Armitage to bring her unique, retro-inspired creative vision to life.
“I wanted to create a dreamscape, a world that doesn’t exist,” explains Millan. “Wires and ghosts that come alive. Crystal visions and whimsical characters that dance in melting corridors. Luca helped make that vintage vision come to life with new technologies and movements with the song itself.”
