Hiss Golden Messenger, the indie-folk act led by singer-songwriter MC Taylor, will soon share their first full-length project in three years. Set for release on May 1 via Chrysalis Records, I’m People will feature 12 tracks that explore the gamut of human experiences, along with the fleeting moments and lasting memories that help shape who we become.
“The songs on I’m People are about running towards and away from things, about reasonable and realistic hope and expectations, about having babies, getting older, love and lust and luck and music,” Taylor shares in a statement.
“They are songs about solitude and heartbreak and poverty of the spirit, and maybe community as some kind of antidote for these particular types of sicknesses,” he continues. “Shedding old skin. Mystery as a beautiful necessity. My grandmother Lucy’s Cadillac, filled with cigarette smoke, Conway Twitty singing ‘Slow Hand.’ The lightning fields outside Santa Rosa, New Mexico, [at] midnight. Late nights drinking wine, running wild, bondage, fealty, devotion, seeing and being seen, owning and being owned. My wife, my children, summertime in the mountains, wild roses climbing the fence, a peaceful mind, rummaging through scrap heaps of the heart, breaking and making and breaking again. To dust. Truth, lies, magic, faith.”

ALBUM OUT MAY 1 VIA CHRYSALIS RECORDS
Taylor is offering an early preview of I’m People by sharing the LP’s lead single, “In the Middle of It.” The track is a reflective, imagery-driven story-song which he penned during a stay in a corner room inside the El Rey Court hotel in downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico.
“Well, hearts run wild under the sawdust moon / At the foot of the mountain, I’ll see you when I see you,” he declares. “In the middle of it / Oh, just a little one / In the middle of it / Oh, just a little one.”
Along with today’s album announcement and lead single release, Taylor has confirmed an upcoming U.S. tour for this fall. He’ll be joined by a full band for the slate of shows, which includes stops in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Minneapolis, and Denver. Tickets for all dates listed below will go on sale this Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m. local time.
