Acclaimed musicians Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, and Sara Watkins have reunited as folk supergroup I’m With Her and are sharing details of their long-awaited sophomore album. “Ancient Light,” the lead single off the trio’s upcoming LP Wild and Clear and Blue, is a sunny and contemplative peek into their latest creative chapter.

With Jarosz at the helm on vocals, “Ancient Light” ruminates on life’s cyclical patterns and the importance of moving ahead, even through the darkest times.

“In the dark, I’m gathering / While everything’s unraveling, I’m building a fire,’ she declares poetically. “Sparks and smoke rings fill up the night / When it catches I’ll be swimming in the ancient light.”

“We started playing around with this riff in a Silverlake bungalow in October of 2022,” the band shares in a statement. “We were still at the beginning of writing this album, and as these images of joyful melancholy floated towards us, we found ourselves reaching for them in a free-flowing way that felt wholly new to us, yet completely natural.

“This song is a journey, and (producer) Josh Kaufman encouraged us to open the song up and let it breathe,” they continue. “‘Ancient Light’ sets the tone for the entire album, communing with our past and future selves.”

Set for release on May 9 via Rounder Records, Wild and Clear and Blue features 11 new tracks produced by Bonny Light Horseman‘s Josh Kaufman. Fans can expect to hear an intricately layered, expanded soundscape that spotlights the trio’s flawless harmonies and poetic lyricism that listeners already know and love.
