Award-winning artist and multi-talented entrepreneur Trisha Yearwood has shared the heartfelt title track from her first new album in six years. Released on Friday (June 27), “The Mirror” is a gentle reminder to break out of the often toxic urge to compare yourself to others.

Co-written by Yearwood, Leslie Satcher, and Bridgette Tatum and produced by Yearwood with Chad Carlson, “The Mirror” offers a message that is especially personal for the country hitmaker.

“I feel like a lot of the songs on this record are letters to my younger self,” Yearwood shares in a statement. “‘The Mirror’ is absolutely that. In my experience, we, as women, are so hard on ourselves. We pick ourselves apart. But have you ever passed yourself in a mirror and, not realizing it was you, thought, ‘She looks strong, or confident’—something you’d never say about yourself? That thought inspired the song: about reaching a place where you talk to yourself like a best friend, not your worst enemy.”

“She just stopped me in my tracks / ‘Cause I’ve never seen myself look like that,” sings Yearwood in the song’s sweet, sweeping chorus. “She looked me right straight in the eye, said, ‘I don’t know why you’re surprised’ / The truth, to me, could not be any clearer / You’ve always been the girl in the mirror.”

Set for release on July 18 via Virgin Music Group and Yearwood’s self-run label, Gwendolyn Records, The Mirror features 15 new tracks, including collaborations with Hailey Whitters, Jim Lauderdale, and Charles Kelley. The LP is also Yearwood’s first fully co-written record and the first time she has taken on the role of co-producer for her own full-length project.

To mark The Mirror‘s release, she’s set to hold special events in select cities across the U.S., including her hometown of Monticello, Georgia, where she’ll autograph copies of the record for fans.
