Nick and Shane Sullivan, better known as the sibling duo at the helm of the indie rock project Joyer, are ready to open the emotional floodgates with their upcoming album. Set for release on October 24 via Julia’s War Recordings, On the Other End of the Line… leans into the bittersweet uncertainty that accompanies our journeys through life.
With their lead single, “Cure,” Joyer focuses on the moments that may seem like minutiae, but help weave the strings that tie us all together. Propelled by a textured, slow-rolling guitar groove, the track serves as a comforting soundtrack for anyone navigating life under the weight of isolation.
“This song is about loneliness and searching for connection in any and every place,” Shane Sullivan shares in a statement. “I wrote this one from the perspective of a made-up character, but it definitely has some personal feelings mixed in. I was thinking a lot about how a small or seemingly inconsequential interaction with a stranger at a bar or a customer service worker over the phone can be meaningful or fulfilling.”
“Cure” is the first cut shared from The Other End of the Line…, which the brothers recorded at Palisade Studios in Chicago and serves as the follow-up to their 2024 LP, Night Songs. Joyer recruited Slow Pulp’s Henry Stoehr to produce their upcoming 10-track album, collaborating to craft a rich and intricately arranged soundscape that challenged them more creatively than ever before. In contrast, they opted to strip back the layers lyrically, leaning into a more raw and personal approach to songwriting that explores a wide spectrum of human emotions.
You can catch Joyer out on the road this December as they join villagerrr as support for Teethe’s stretch of U.S. headlining dates. Fans can find more information about the live shows, which are listed below, by visiting Joyer’s official website.
