Celebrated country artist Mickey Guyton delivered an uplifting performance of her track “All American” at the 2024 Democratic National Convention. She took the stage this evening (Aug. 19) at the United Center in Chicago, Ill. to deliver a rendition of her original track, which echoed a heartfelt message of unity.
“We got the same stars, the same stripes / Just wanna live that good life,” she proclaimed in the song’s blazing chorus. “Ain’t we all, ain’t we all all American?”
“All American” is the second track from Guyton’s 2021 debut studio album, Remember Her Name. The talented Texas native has paved a new and important path within country music over the past decade. Guyton, who became the first Black woman to perform at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2020, has delivered some of the most authentic and powerful tracks in recent years. Her songs “Black Like Me” and “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” serve as personal and raw story-songs that reflect the experiences of many American women.
Guyton took the stage in support of Democratic Presidential Nominee to-be Kamala Harris, who would become America’s first female president in history if elected.
“It’s so inspiring to see someone who is not only exceptionally smart, but also happens to look like me, running for the highest office in our country,” Guyton told CNN in a pre-perfomance interview. “She represents so much to so many and I just think it’s incredible. I never thought I would see a woman be president in my lifetime and now it seems attainable.”
Guyton served as the first of multiple musical acts set to take the stage during the convention’s kick-off. James Taylor and Jason Isbell are also scheduled to perform during Monday night’s festivities.
