Influential art-rock musician, singer-songwriter, and activist Peter Gabriel is ready to share new music with fans and plans to roll out a series of songs with some direction from above. The 75-year-old artist will be releasing unique remixes of tracks off his upcoming album, o\i, to coincide with the moon cycle.
On each full moon of 2026, Gabriel will share Tchad Blake’s “Dark-Side Mix” of a selected song, followed by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent’s “Bright-Side Mix” version of the track during each month’s new moon, along with accompanying visual art.
In the statement below, Gabriel provides an in-depth look at the creation of and inspiration behind his upcoming project, which appears to follow in the thematic footsteps of his 2023 record, i/o.
“I’m delighted to say that tonight, at the full moon, we will be beginning another year of full moon releases under the name o\i.
The songs are a mix of thoughts and feelings. I have been thinking about the future and how we might respond to it. We are sliding into a period of transition like no other, most likely triggered in three waves; AI, quantum computing, and the brain computer interface. Artists have a role to look into the mists and, when they catch sight of something, to hold up a mirror.
These are my lumpy bits –i/o: the inside has a new way out and o\i: the outside has a new way in.
We are not, and have never been, the exclusively self-determining, independent beings that have been given the run of the world. We are something else, a part of nature, a part of everything, and feeling a connection, shaking our booty, and giving and receiving some love can help us find our place – and put a big smile on our faces.
Some of these songs are going to form part of the brain project that I’ve been exploring for a number of years, and some just make me feel happy. I hope you like them.”
Along with his formal announcement of the project via a video posted to his official YouTube account on Jan. 3, Peter Gabriel shared “Been Undone (Dark-Side Mix),” the first featured track off o\i. The entracing song, which was written and produced by Gabriel, features Janaina Mello Landini‘s art piece “Ciclotrama 156 (Palindrome)” in its cover art.

“The way she takes the rope and moves it out, unravelling it, is almost like fractals or tree trunks and looks like the brain in some ways too, so I see a lot of entry points,” Gabriel says of Landini.
The official release date and track list for o\i have yet to be released, but fans can expect to hear Stent’s “Bright-Side Mix” of “Been Undone” to drop around Jan. 18, which marks the first new moon of 2026. You can read more about the project by visiting Peter Gabriel’s official website here.
