Singer-songwriter and seasoned musician Vanessa Carlton is ready to turn the page to a new chapter in her musical career with the release of her captivating single, “Animal.” The track serves as a preview of Carlton’s long-awaited seventh studio album, Veils, which is expected to drop sometime in early 2026.

“Animal” was produced by Dave Fridmann, known for his stellar work with The Flaming Lips, MGMT, and OK Go. It’s his first creative collaboration with Carlton since serving as producer of her 2020 record, Love Is an Art. Together, Fridmann and Carlton crafted the hypnotic track’s mystical soundscape, which serves as the intriguing backdrop to its lyrical tale of finding the strength in letting fate steer your path.

“The song is about stoicism,” Carlton shares. “The idea of knowing we cannot control external forces; she is being hunted, and she accepts the reality of what is happening. The acceptance allows her to truly see the animal. Does she even identify with this creature? Every human has an animal within them. Are you hunting? Are you being hunted? Who is the animal?”

Although the unveiling of “Animal” confirms more new music is in the works, fans will have to wait a little longer for additional details about Vanessa Carlton’s upcoming full-length project. Until then, we recommend adding the track to your wistful wintertime walk playlist — you can thank me later.
