Dust off your dancing shoes: Allen Stone is back with a soulful cover of a trademark track from accomplished singer-songwriter Christopher Cross. Released on Oct. 10, his energizing version of Cross’s hit debut single, “Ride Like the Wind,” provides a fresh sonic backdrop for the story-song about an outlaw trying to outrun a death sentence by journeying toward refuge in Mexico.

The cover track was born out of a collaboration with Seeker Music, which acquired the rights to Christopher Cross’s catalog of work in 2023. This fresh musical take on the 1979 track by 38-year-old Stone offers a chance for a new generation of listeners to connect with the now 74-year-old. Cross and his extensive songbook.

Although he and his bandmates added their own layer of soulful sonicality to the song, it’s clear that the importance of staying true to the magic of Cross’s original recording was at the top of Stone’s mind.

“It’s always intimidating to take on an iconic song and perform it for the world; the pressure is high,” Stone shares in a statement. “But ‘Ride Like the Wind’ is such a stellar tune, and getting to play it live in front of an audience has been a thrill. I’m so glad Seeker was down to release the cover, and stoked to have it in the setlist this tour. Christopher Cross is legendary, and we just hope we did him justice. The history behind this song is wild, from how he wrote it to that killer guitar solo at the end. It’s been cool to see the love it’s received all over the world.”

Stone will spend the rest of the year out on the road heading to venues across the U.S. and Canada for a co-headlining tour with Ripe. Tickets are on sale now for the stretch of dates listed below, which runs through Dec. 19. You can find more information about the shows and ticketing options by visiting Allen Stone’s official website.
