On the heels of a major tour announcement and the release of two intriguing singles, Lord Huron is ready to share details of their next full-length project. The Cosmic Selector, Vol. 1, set for release on July 18 via Mercury Records, will serve as the acclaimed indie-folk outfit’s fifth studio album.

The 12-track LP was written and co-produced by frontman Ben Schneider and expands upon the layered, modern yet nostalgic soundscapes at the heart of past tracks like “To the Ends of the Earth,” “The Night We Met,” and “Not Dead Yet.”

The Cosmic Selector, Vol. 1, will include the Kristen Stewart collaboration “Who Laughs Last,” which dropped in January, along with “Nothing I Need,” which has become a radio heavy-hitter since its release in March.

To coincide with their album announcement, Lord Huron has also shared a new album cut, “Looking Back.” Set alongside a dreamy, almost haunting accompaniment driven by rhythmic guitar and glittering harp, the song questions if it’s possible to cut oneself free from the heavy chains of the past.

“Spent my whole life looking back and wondering who I was / Something changed the day you left, and I’ll never know just what,” Schneider declares in the track’s soaring chorus. “I’ll spend my whole life looking up and wondering who I am / Something tells me you and I will never meet again.”

“The weight of your past can distort your present and future, the way massive celestial objects warp the fabric of the universe,” he shares in a statement. “Like a bowling ball on a trampoline. This song wonders if it’s possible to let go or if looking back is a fundamental law of existence.”
