It’s been four years since Young the Giant delivered a new full-length project, but that’s all about to change. The indie rock outfit has confirmed that their long-anticipated sixth studio album, Victory Garden, is set for release on May 1 via Fearless Records.
The project, made in collaboration with seasoned producer Brendan O’Brien, was written and recorded by the band while huddled in the same room during creative retreats set in the scenic California landscapes of Idyllwild and Joshua Tree.
The resulting 11-track LP, recorded at Henson Studios in Hollywood, Calif., is thematically focused on what connects us, the need for empathy and joy of acceptance, along with a hopeful plea for better times to come.
“Victory Garden is an album about radical empathy, the struggle of life over death, love over fear; lessons learned from seeing this increasingly difficult life through the eyes of our children,” shares Young the Giant. “Victory gardens were created for local communities to increase food supply while war was raging. Our album also strives to galvanize community through thoughtful action. In an age that vacillates between escapism and hopelessness, Victory Garden is an ode to all that is human and beautiful. Radical empathy, in these times, is its own form of resistance.”

Along with detailing their timely new project, Young the Giant has shared the record’s lead single. “Different Kind of Love” is a captivating preview of what’s to come, offering a needed message of unity during a time when unprecedented events have become a daily norm.
“Livin’ in a house that’s not your home / Livin’ on a prayer you used to know / Give in to the weight, but don’t let go / Don’t let go / We could be forever, not just once / We could havе a different kind of love / Givе in to the weight, but don’t give up / Don’t give up”
“In a world inundated by either doomsday nuclear clocks or escapist AI slop lulling us into torpid submission, ‘Different Kind of Love’ is a lucid invitation to find radical empathy; a revolutionary ode to optimism in our cynical world, because unconditional love in our age is its own form of extreme resistance,” the band explains.
