Brian Wilson, the influential lyricist, musician and producer who made pop music history as a member of The Beach Boys has died. He was 82 years old.

The news was announced in a statement posted to Wilson’s official Instagram by his family late Wednesday morning (June 11).

“We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away,” the post reads. “We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving. We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercy.”
